Fernando Alonso first victory after nearly a year.

The world's first F1 night race has just ended in less than 2 hours after it started, with the least favourite, Fernando Alonso snatching away the winning trohpy.

The superb 309.087 km street race competition which was held in Singapore's finance hub and shopping district , proves to be one of the most exciting sporting event ever held in Asia.

Acute turnings, narrow street circuit, unpredictable weather, hot humid temperature and powerful glaring spotlights, made this racing event more challenging for the drivers.

However, it was a disastrous night for Team Ferrari when Felipe Massa, who started first in the line-up and was tipped to win this race, ended up in the 13th place. The pit crew made a complete blunder at the pit stop, when they failed to get the fuelling hose off the car as Massa speeds away. The hardest hit for Team Ferrari when Kimi Raikkonen crashed into the concrete barrier with only 4 laps to go.

All time favourite, UK's Lewis Hamilton, was the most consistant in performance throughout the race. Started 2nd in the GP pole, he maintained his focus to finally finished in the 3rd spot after the 61 laps, securing 84 points behind Felipe Massa with 77 points and currently the championship leader.

Earlier in the race, Alonso's team partner, Nelson Piquet of Renault, also suffered disappointment when he crashed his machine into the barriers just after a few laps.

Next Grand Prix racing will be held in Nakahinata, Japan on 12 October 2008.
